I had a game changing experience at Untold Stories (...great name btw!). I've been messing around with recording my own stuff from home for a few years, at an amateur level, but I came into the session with the mindset of trying to learn as much as possible about how to record properly. And I learned a bunch about what kind of equipment to invest in personally, how to produce tracks, tips on EQ settings and just generally how to work efficiently in a studio environment. As well as just having a blast the whole day, this genuinely upped my game for recording vocals, guitar and harmonica. I'd say Ian was the real star of the show though, as he created a very relaxed but professional vibe throughout the whole day, he really know's his stuff and even though I'm just starting out in the studio world, I guarantee he could record, mix or master for musicians at all levels. I felt like no time was wasted throughout the session and the cherry on top was that I finished the 8hr session with a completed track that I love! Highly recommend for any musical minstrels out there who are looking to lay down some quality tracks! 👌
I recently recorded the audiobook, The Inner Remodel, at Untold Stories Recordings, and I had a magical time. The final product sounds incredible. Top notch equipment, top notch people. Ian has been great to work with as I have recorded several songs at his studio. He’s super easy to collaborate with, provides valuable feedback, and puts a lot of care into what he does. He also clearly knows what he’s doing. Highly recommend.
Ian is awesome to work with! Punctual, attentive to detail, highly responsive, and professional throughout the process from booking to recording to revising the final track. Additionally, he is collaborative in bringing ideas to life. I haven't recorded many songs so I appreciated his input in moving parts around / adding certain effects because I wouldn't have thought of some of those ideas myself. He was also patient with my many takes and helpful in deciding on the best ones.
Ian and Untold Stories did an amazing job recording and mastering an original song of my son. The mastered single truly sounds great - Spotify/radio-worthy recording. I desperately want to keep my son's love for making music fresh and vibrant (which is not easy to do with all of the distractions of going to university in a foreign country), and this certainly helped. A lot. My son not only learned a lot about the recording process and sound engineering in general, but also learned a lot about the music industry in Chicago and beyond. Worth every penny (not that there were a lot pennies spent - the price was more than reasonable for a fully-mastered recorded single)!
